Mike Simonetti
|
The nu-disco revolution has a lot to do with Mike Simonetti and his label Italians Do It Better, but Mike is more than just a label guy. He DJs, and if you saw him play last year at Trough, well, you witnessed quite a party. So, we have high hopes for tonight and to wet your appetite check out the mix he did for JJJ. Judging from what Mike wrote on his blog, I think he might feel the majority of Australia would have wanted an ‘electro/techno’ mix, not everyone Mike! |

Mumdance |
Mumdance is the Brighton native that exports regional bass music to the world. You might know him as the dude who blogs on Diplo’s Mad Decent. Or the guy who did the bugged out version of SantiGold’s ‘Creator’. Either way he is heading our way to play Revolver, and bringing some seriously heavy tunes with him. |

The Very Best - Warm Herat of Africa This track should have been featured a while ago, but better late than never. The Very Best (British producers Radioclit and Malawian vocalist Essau Mwamwaya) have created a mutant hybrid of traditional African music that merges with current trends in undrground dance music. The first single Warm Heart of Africa from the highly anticipated debut-album of the same name features Ezra Koeing from Vampire Weekend and is brilliant piece of African-dance-pop that makes you feel all good inside. Izakaya Hachibeh Izakaya Hachibeh is in the cavernous 2-floor space that used to house Kim Chi Grandma on Bourke St. While there’s no shortage of Japanese options in the CBD (even within a block of Hachibeh) a new contender is always welcome – especially one ticking as many boxes as this one does. The lunch time menu has pretty standard offerings – bentos (you’ll fill out a form to make your selection), rice bowls, noodle dishes and freshly prepared sushi. Priced at $10-$14 it won’t stress the bank account too much. At night Hachibeh opens up the menu and becomes more of a traditional izakaya offering a large range of smaller dishes to be shared whilst you sip your Asahi (on tap for $6 a pot) or sake. We can recommend the tatsuta age (fried chicken), the tempura vegetables and the gyu sashi (sliced rare beef). Katsu curry fans take note – Hachibeh’s is version is up there with the best. Vegetarians are well served here as well, with the menu pointing out which dishes don’t contain fish stock. Overall Hachibeh is good place offering classics done well, and of course if there’s natives eating there it must be good. |
