Disco has slowly but steadily reinvented itself through-out its history. Many countries, DJs and producers have put their imprint on the genre and changed the way people see it. From the early, 70s, glam sound to the minimal and cosmic Italo disco, it has continually developed. And now it has been pushed back into the forefront of popular and underground culture. Currently, cosmic disco is in a resurgence, through people like Mike Simonetti, Lindstrom, and Todd Terje (all have played or will play locally) - they have all helped people rediscover disco. And in honour of this, Opulent enlistend, one-half of Hammer and Tong, Luke Brown, to get to work and deliver a mix of disco that references early to recent disco. We hope you enjoy this mix from Melbourne based DJ Luke Brown.
Luke Brown - Opulent disco mix

There is no point in denying it, Mexi is a great guy. But does being a great dude mean you are going to produce a great mix? Well in this case yes.
Mexi has combined some classic and recent fiyah in this mix as he blends crunk with Jamaican dancehall and one drop. It shows how much southern hip-hop draws from Jamaica. Just look at Lil Waynes dancehall insipred tracks, or read interviews with Lil Jon or Maceo about the influence of Jamaican culture in the southern states of America.

Tranter comes through with non-stop dance floor action, but what I like about this mix is he doesn't just keep the tempo up the whole time, the Biggie acapella is worked into so well, creating a drop in tempo that means the mix is never repeatitive. Plus he mixes in a few classic joints in there - I'm looking at you Wreckx N Effect.
Also there is a few exclusives mixed in there - look out for the new joint from the Bumblebeez Tranter sourced.

More then just a DJ, Oohee has recently turned to production, and has been collaborating with a range of artists from Dudely Perkins to Bit By Bats. Expect to hear pleanty more from Opulent's boy in fluro, Oohee.

This is a mix that we did for JJJ's Mixup program a few weeks ago. It's a pretty good snapshot of the kind of stuff we're listening to at the moment (ok, with a few excpetions - that Quad City DJs track, for example). But otherwise, any time you swing by Opulent HQ, you're likely to hear this kind of stuff blasting from our tinny laptop speakers. One part dirty south, one part blog house, one part B'more - we got it all covered here - there's something for everyone.
